Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Economics of AI and Data Science
Ekaterina Prytkova is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Economics of AI and Data Science at the University Côte d'Azur and the laboratory GREDEG-CNRS in Nice, France.
One strand of Ekaterina's research focuses on the formation of AI industry: which microeconomic foundations apply to (i) production and consumption of AI technology, (ii) innovation and competition in markets that constitute AI (hardware, algorithms, data, labor) and for markets of AI application. Such microeconomic analysis of a maturing AI industry helps to understand the mechanisms that drive its development and explain its outcomes: who survives and who falls behind, which products and services are offered, and which functionality is in the making for the next generation of AI products. Currently, Ekaterina is working on a set of projects studying firms’ strategic incentives to open-source their AI models, the effect of OSS on the market outcomes of AI firms, and resulting AI ecosystem.
Another strand of Ekaterina's research is dedicated to studying the impact of AI and other emerging digital technologies on the future of work. Competition for tasks between human labour and digital technologies is intensifying as the latter become increasingly autonomous and intelligent. The skillset required of labour to remain competitive is rapidly changing, posing challenges to job markets of today and to the future of education. Ekaterina's work sheds light on the relevance and adoption of emerging digital technologies across European and US regions, and on their impact on employment and earnings.
